When going on holiday in a foreign country there are always some important things you need to consider. In order to make it a little bit easier for you, we have tried to create a list with some of the things you should consider before travelling to Tanzania as well as some of the things you have to be aware of when you in Tanzania.

  • Visa: It requires a visa to enter Tanzania even just as a tourist. The prices and conditions do change frequently and differs depending on your nationality. Normally it is possible to buy the visa in the immigration office at your point of entry. However, to be sure and to know your possibilities we highly recommend you to contact your local Tanzanian embassy or consulate before you leave you home country. You can also visit the website for the Ministry of Home Affairs for more information.
  • Malaria: As you might already know Tanzania is a country where malaria is very common. Therefore we recommend you to contact your doctor prior to departure for advice on which malaria medication you should use.
  • Vaccines: You might also require some vaccines before you travel. Vaccination requirements change from time to time. We suggest you consult your doctor or health department for information on the latest health precautions.Remember to contact your doctor in good time as some vaccines need to be taken up to a month before departure.
  • Climate: The climate in Tanzania changes from destination to destination as well as the time of the year, so to be sure you bring the right kind of clothes remember to check what season you are arriving to.
  • Furthermore some activities such as mountain climbing might require special clothing or equipment, so make sure you get all information on what to bring if you are going for more adventures activities.
  • Sun screen: Tanzania is very close to equator, so remember to protect you from the sun and drink enough water.
  • Pick pockets: As in many other tourist destinations in the world, pick pockets are unfortunately also to be found in Tanzania. We therefore recommend you to be very careful with your belongings at ALL times.
  • Cash: There are ATM machines available in most of the bigger towns so use them and avoid carrying large amounts of money. Also avoid walking outside after dark, use taxies even for short destinations.
Tipping: Tipping is not compulsory, however it is much appreciated as both living standards and wages for most of the Tanzanians are considerably lower than in the western world.
