Tarangire National Park

Tarangire National Park is the fourth largest park in Tanzania wit one of the highest density of elephants of any park in the country. The park derives its name from e perennial Tarangire River that flows through the centre of the national park from south to north/north-west and empties its water into soda lakes Burunge and Mnayara.

During the dry season this river is a primary source of water in the Tarangire ecosystem.

The park is endowed with wetlands which act as sponges to supply water to Tarangire River during dry periods. Because of the availability of water, the park has a high concentration and variety of wildlife in the dry season.
