January to Early March – The Short dry season

The green season in Tanzania and there is a chance of rain. January to February is one of the warmest months and the Landscapes are still beautifully green, there are lots of newborn animals running around – and a lot of predator action too. Early March tends to be dry while the long rainy season begins at the end of March – but wildlife viewing safari is excellent.

  • Day time maximum temperature = 28 degrees centigrade
  • Nighttime minimum temperature = 16 degrees centigrade
  • The average amount of rainfall = 90 – 140 millimeters

You can experience a Big 5 safari in the Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire National Park, Climb Kilimanjaro, or spend your honeymoon on Zanzibar Island, timing is important.

April to May – The Long rain Season

The long rains season and even starting to dry up towards the end of May – the bush and vegetation look fantastic after all the rain with most herbivores in fine condition thanks to the abundant food and water that’s widely available
There is notably less dust around and also significantly fewer tourists – a great time to get cheap prices (budget-friendly) yet fair weather for your Tanzania safari before the start of the main dry season.

  • Nighttime minimum temperature = 16 degrees centigrade
  • Average amount of rainfall = 70 – 140 millimeters

You can experience a Big 5 safari in the Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangire National Park

The Great Migration Safari

June to October – The dry season

Peak season is underway – June to October is a dry and busy month in Tanzania. The rains are properly finished, Wildlife is easier to spot, as the bush is thinning and animals congregate around dwindling water sources – with clear skies, plenty of sunshine, chilly mornings, and evenings.
The latter end of the dry season in September also sees the beginning of better sea visibility off the coast of Zanzibar making it an excellent time to snorkel and dive. Sea visibility is generally good

  • Night time minimum temperature = 14 – 19 degrees centigrade
  • Average amount of rainfall = 20 – 50 millimeters

November to December – The Short rain season

A great time to travel to Africa with a great game viewing in Tanzania as the wide-open plains take on the appearance of a golf course with short grass that adds color without obscuring wildlife sightings – there are plenty of predators seeking out newborn herbivores as the rainy season starts and seeing the stormy clouds rolling in is really exciting and you will have a great time for bird watching as many migratory birds arrive.

  • Night time minimum temperature = 14 – 19 degrees centigrade
  • Average amount of rainfall = 20 – 50 millimeters

You can experience unforgettable game drives to Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire, Mkomazi, and many other parks. Also climbing Kilimanjaro is a good idea – as well as spending time on the tropical beach on Zanzibar Island

  • The top parks – Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara, and Tarangire deliver superb year-round game viewing, but visitor numbers peak from about June to October.
  • Mount Kilimanjaro: the best weather conditions in which to climb are between July and October or January to March.
  • For a tropical beach holiday, the best time to visit Tanzania’s coast, Zanzibar, and other islands are between June to March.
  • Traveling during the long rains (April to May), you could have a week of sunshine or a week of rain – but you’ll get low season rates.
  • During the green season (January to March and November to December) – least crowded, lots of baby animals around, and a fantastic time for bird watching
  • During peak season (June to October) – cool and dry weather and good photography conditions
