You arrive in Moshi, Tanzania, the starting point for your Mount Kilimanjaro trek. Here, you meet your trekking team and guides, go through a pre-trek briefing, and make final preparations for the journey ahead.
The trek begins at the Lemosho Gate, located at an altitude of 2,385 meters (7,825 feet). You hike through the lush and verdant rainforest, gradually gaining elevation. The day’s trek leads you to the Mti Mkubwa campsite at an altitude of 2,650 meters (8,694 feet).
You’ll conquer the Barranco Wall, a thrilling and challenging climb. Descend into the scenic Barranco Valley, and eventually reach the Barranco Camp, located at an altitude of 3,960 meters (13,000 feet).
Continuing the ascent, you’ll trek to the Barafu Camp, the last campsite before the summit attempt. Barafu Camp is positioned at an altitude of 4,640 meters (15,223 feet). Rest and prepare for the challenging summit climb.
This is the most critical and challenging day. You begin the summit attempt around midnight to reach the summit, Uhuru Peak, before sunrise. After conquering the summit at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet), you’ll descend back to Barafu Camp for a brief rest. Continue the descent to Mweka Camp, situated at an altitude of 3,100 meters (10,170 feet).
